7″ X 5″ X 4″ KEEPSAKE BOXES – 03/24 – I made two of these in this batch. They feature Birdseye Maple tops and bottoms with Padauk, Maple and Bullitt stripes and a variety of woods to make up the sides. These are a good way to use up scraps of wood, left over from other projects.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION KEEPSAKE BOXES
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION KEEPSAKE BOXES – 03-24 – I made nine of these boxes in this batch to fill an order for five. These are nice for the child who is making their 1st Communion to keep items that commemorate the day. Once ordered, I will engrave a wood plaque that fits inside the lid with the child’s name, date of the Sacrament and the name of the church. This batch features a Chalice and Host inlayed into the birdseye maple top, walnut crosses embedded in the sides and a maple lift out tray.

STARS AND STRIPES KEEPSAKE BOXES – 2/24 – These two keepsake boxes are made from Soft Maple (white stripes and star inlays) and Padauk (red stripes). The blue field is painted with artists oil paint. They are finished with polyurethane gloss varnish.

WALNUT PIE CARRIER BOX – 1998 – AKA The “Over the Top” Pie Box. Made from Black Walnut and designed to carry up to two full size pies, it features two “lift out” pie trays that adjust to fit a pie plate as needed, 1/4″ box joint corners and brass hardware.

Birdseye Maple and Black Walnut are layered to create this Dresser Organizer. The wood box features barrel hinges that are invisible when the box is closed.

BIRDSEYE/MAPLE CROSS BOXES – 10/2022 – These Cross Boxes were made as gifts for two of my Priest friends. They are made from birds-eye maple, hard maple, African mahogany and black walnut. They feature a distinctive walnut cross inlay in the top and a cross pattern band on the sides. The barrel hinges become invisible when the box is closed and they have a hand rubbed Tung Oil finish.

OAK/WALNUT CHERRY KEEPSAKE BOX – 11/2022 – A small keepsake box, made from oak, walnut and cherry. No hinges just a lift off top.

BIRDS-EYE MAPLE/CHERRY/WALNUT BOXES 12/13 – These five boxes are made from various hardwood scraps left over from other larger projects. They feature cherry sides with walnut squares and oak circles. I laminate a “loaf” of scrap woods about 7″ deep and long enough for one front and one side. I then re-saw the loaf into 1/2″ thick slices to make the side walls. I held off drilling the holes for the 3/8″ oak dowels until I had cut the 7″ loaf into smaller chunks, thus assuring that the 3/8″ hole would not drift off-center over the shorter drilling distance; that worked well. The tops are made from birds-eye maple and silver maple and are attached with concealed “barrel” hinges. Two of the tops feature an attractive damage notch which is filled with an epoxy filler mixed with walnut sawdust. A thin “left-over” slice of the laminate is inlaid into the top and bottom of the 7″ x 7″ box.

1st HOLY COMMUNION KEEPSAKE BOX
1st HOLY COMMUNION KEEPSAKE BOX – 2022 – A box to celebrate a child’s 1st Holy Communion. This one is made with African Mahogany, Cherry and Walnut squares with Maple and Bullitt stripes. It features, a lift out tray and brass hinges and latch. The child’s name and date and place of the Sacrament are routed into the inside of the lid. An heirloom piece that she will keep forever.
While I had everything set up to make this one, I made three additional boxes for future 1st Communicants.
