CHERRY DINING CHAIRS 1

CHERRY DINING CHAIRS 1 – 02/25 – After over 50 years of butchering wood, I decided that if I was going to consider myself an accomplished wood-worker, I had to attempt a set of classic dining chairs. I decided on cherry wood and after more than two weeks, I finally have all the pieces made; complete with all the mortises and tenons, sanded and ready for assembly. Photos of the completed chairs to follow.

CHERRY DINING CHAIRS 1 – 02/25 – After two months of challenging and patient work, they are finished. A set of six cherry dining chairs. They are stained to match a cherry dining table that I made almost 20 years ago. The finish is satin polyurethane varnish. The seats are upholstered with a leather fabric with a gold pattern sewn in.

WALNUT SPIRAL TABLE

WALNUT SPIRAL TABLE – 04/24 – Here is my first attempt at steam bending wood. I made a form jig to wrap the steamed walnut slats around and an assembly jig to space the slats evenly. It was very difficult to get the slats bent to a consistent shape; thus the uneven spacing. The legs and top support are also steam bent. The segmented top holds a tempered glass insert. This was the most complex piece that I have ever completed; I love the light airy look.

WALNUT DINING TABLE – 10/23 – I made this table for some friends who are also woodworkers. They supplied the “rough sawn” walnut wood and have applied the finish. The basic table is six ft. long but it can extend up to nearly nine ft. with the three leaves inserted. It features simple lines and small “bow-ties” to secure the non-glued breadboard edges.
