RESURRECTION CROSS WALL PLAQUE – 10/23 – This oval wall plaque portrays the cross of Christ with the Resurrection Cloth draped over it as a symbol of the Resurrection. It features a scalloped edge and is made from cherry with inlayed red bullitt wood for the cross and white maple for the cloth. I made it as a gift for a priest friend.

SPRUCE SLAB ADDRESS SIGN – 07/2023 – I used this live edged slab of Spruce to create a large address sign for my property in Frenchtown, MT. The 7″ tall numbers are routed into the surface and painted brown. The surface is coated with several layers of clear epoxy. It has been mounted to a tree near the entrance to my property.

THE ROCKING MOOSE

The Rocking Moose – 2016 – It was created as a gift for my granddaughter, Claire’s first birthday. It is constructed from Poplar and features the carved moose figure with a leather saddle and antlers. The antlers are made with two layers of 1/4″ cowhide laminated with a piece of 1/16″ aluminum to help hold the shape.

MAHOGANY ARCHED JEWELRY BOX – 1977 – This is one of my earliest pieces and was made from some African Mahogany that I salvaged from an old wooden form built to create a mold for a large industrial press. It features an arched top, 17 contoured drawer fronts and some rudimentary carvings. The drawers are lined with blue velvet.

WALNUT DINING TABLE – 10/23 – I made this table for some friends who are also woodworkers. They supplied the “rough sawn” walnut wood and have applied the finish. The basic table is six ft. long but it can extend up to nearly nine ft. with the three leaves inserted. It features simple lines and small “bow-ties” to secure the non-glued breadboard edges.

These are nice for the child who is making their 1st Communion to keep items that commemorate the day. Once ordered, I will engrave a wood plaque that fits inside the lid with the child’s name, date of the Sacrament and the name of the church. This batch features a Chalice and Host inlayed into the birdseye maple top, walnut crosses embedded in the sides and a maple lift out tray.

BIRDS-EYE MAPLE/CHERRY/WALNUT BOXES 12/13 – These five boxes are made from various hardwood scraps left over from other larger projects. They feature cherry sides with walnut squares and oak circles. I laminate a “loaf” of scrap woods about 7″ deep and long enough for one front and one side. I then re-saw the loaf into 1/2″ thick slices to make the side walls. I held off drilling the holes for the 3/8″ oak dowels until I had cut the 7″ loaf into smaller chunks, thus assuring that the 3/8″ hole would not drift off-center over the shorter drilling distance; that worked well. The tops are made from birds-eye maple and silver maple and are attached with concealed “barrel” hinges. Two of the tops feature an attractive damage notch which is filled with an epoxy filler mixed with walnut sawdust. A thin “left-over” slice of the laminate is inlaid into the top and bottom of the 7″ x 7″ box.

1st HOLY COMMUNION KEEPSAKE BOX – 2022 – A box to celebrate a child’s 1st Holy Communion. This one is made with African Mahogany, Cherry and Walnut squares with Maple and Bullitt stripes. It features, a lift out tray and brass hinges and latch. The child’s name and date and place of the Sacrament are routed into the inside of the lid. An heirloom piece that she will keep forever.

While I had everything set up to make this one, I made three additional boxes for future 1st Communicants.
